I've basically been rotting at home for the past few days. Am still looking for an open intern position in magazines or broadcast stations. No luck so far. Media Prima STILL wants an official internship period, and this break is again, JUST A BREAK. Sigh. Looks like my only chance to work there would be after my degree!
So, for the past few days, I've been catching up on my favourite series, Smallville.

I have finally completed Season 8! It still amazes me how DVD sellers produce such high quality DVDs just months after the series officially aired its season finale. And my uncle never fails to get hold of every season's DVDs. LOL!
I'm not exactly a Superman fan, but the series is totally different. I loved its early seasons when Clark Kent was still a teenager, facing little villains in high school, helping his human parents run the family barn and slowly discovering his super powers.
After eight seasons, you would think that the story gets lamer and repetitive, but it gets more exciting! One part that got to me was when one of the characters referred to Clark Kent as the 'alien Jesus'. Apparently the creators of Superman did link the character to Jesus on purpose. Like how Clark Kent was born and raised among humans, how he was sent to earth to save mankind, how he always brings out the good in people, and so on. And apparently, Superman's death, burial, resurrection and second coming also show similarities. I can't wait for the coming seasons! We shall see if there really are similarities.
Just a little Superman trivia I just read, did you know that Superman and his father's real name are Kal-el and Jor-el? Most of you probably did. But did you know that 'el' actually means 'God' in Hebrew? The Kent's original names in TV shows and movies were actually Mary and Joseph. Cool!
Stephen Skelton wrote a book called 'The Gospel According to the World's Greatest Superhero'. It talks about similarities found between Jesus and Superman. Hmmm... I wonder where I can find this book. The book kinda tells us how about evangelism through entertainment. The author seems to be an expert in this field, revealing the Truth through secular entertainment and popular culture.
However, despite the similarities, people should always and only remember Superman as a popular icon created for entertainment, not a symbolic figure that portrays Jesus. People who may not know any better could get confused. We definitely don't want that to happen.
Now, if you follow Smallville and don't want Season 8 spoilers, DON'T READ the following!
The second half of Smallville has the most nerve-wrecking episodes in the series. I was practically biting my nails in every episode!
Lana Lang comes back after she went missing for seven months. She never planned to leave in the first place. The 'dead' Lex Luthor forced her to do it. She puts on an invisible suit embedded under her skin (Mirotic~) that gives her super powers. Now, she can finally walk alongside Clark. It's weird seeing her away from her usual vulnerable self.
The suit was originally created to bring back Lex Luthor from the 'dead'. That didn't happen. So he obviously got angry. He hires people to create a bomb that would destroy the whole city using Kryptonite. Lana, with her new powers, can somehow absorb it. The intelligent Luthor just had to break up the city's new power couple. Now, the only way to save the city is for Lana to absorb all the Kryptonite. But after doing that, she will have so much of it in her that Clark will never be able to go near her again. For the greater good, they both agreed to do it.
They both save the city. Oliver Queen saves everyone from Lex Luthor by killing him once and for all. This upsets Clark, because he doesn't believe in killing. As for Lana, knowing that she can never be together with Clark ever again, she leaves. Again. Noooo... Clark loses Lana once and for all. AGAIN. Nooooo... Now, Lois Lane finally comes into the picture, romantically. I like Lois more than Lana. Although Lana is nice and sweet, Lois's character is funnier and more exciting. LOL
Lois slowly develops a crush on the 'red-blue-blur' a.k.a. Clark, who is admired by everyone after Jimmy manages to capture a glimpse of the man in action. She tries every way possible to contact him. Of course, she doesn't know that the city's superhero is really Clark Kent, the person sitting right in front of her everyday at the Daily Planet. She gets so desperate to meet him that she even creates a superhero of her own, acting as a bait, Stiletto. Hilarious!!! LOL Clark finally gives in, calls her through the public phone booth from time to time to talk to her, disguising with a deeper voice. She is thrilled to finally be able to speak to him.
Another new character, Davis Bloome a.k.a. Doomsday, the other Kryptonian who was sent to earth to kill Clark. What no one else knew was that Davis also came down to earth at the same time as Clark during the meteor shower. Davis finds out his true destiny. He can no longer control the killer and beast (literally) in him. More and more people are brutally murdered and dismembered. He realises one day that Chloe, the woman she loves, in the only thing that can calm the beast in him.
After recovering from the beast's attack during their wedding, Jimmy finds Davis snooping around and suspects that he is the serial killer. Nobody believes him, not even Chloe. Everyone thinks that his hallucinations are probably the effects of his medication. He gets upset, and decides to leave her. Chloe is devastated. Davis slowly moves on with her, begging her to be with him because only she can make him stay human.
Chloe has no choice. In order to save Clark from this beast who is destined to kill him, she has to sacrifice everything. One day, Clark and Chloe plan to kill Davis using liquid Kryptonite, hoping for it to have the same effect as it usually does on Clark. Davis 'dies' in the container. Days later, he shows up at Chloe's place. He explains everything to Chloe, about how he has become stronger and he is immortal. In order to stop the beast from killing more innocent people, he talks Chloe into staying together with him. Chloe decides to hide him in her basement.
One day, Oliver and Clark find out that Davis is alive. They make Chloe stay away from him. Clark brings him to the fortress, planning to send him to the Phantom Zone. Chloe convinces him to give Davis a second chance and takes him away. They run away from Smallville.
In the season finale, Clark realises that he can use Black Kryptonite to split the Kryptonian from Davis' human side. He hopes to destroy Doomsday once and for all, and still give Davis a chance to move on with a normal life. Oliver warns him that humans do have a darker side as well. In a fight between Clark and Davis, Clark was on the verge of defeat. Chloe points the Black Kryptonite at Davis, the beast came out of him and goes into the city. Davis is now human.
Clark chases after the beast and brings him to a plant. A planned explosion kills Doomsday while Clark escapes just in time. Jimmy brings Chloe and the unconscious Davis to a watch tower as Clark suggested. The watch tower was originally a wedding present from Jimmy to Chloe. As Davis lies there unconscious, Jimmy finally opens up to Chloe, saying that he knows about Clark's super powers and how much she has sacrificed because of him. He was sorry for the way he treated Chloe before. Chloe also explains that the reason he ran away with Davis was to protect Clark. The only person she will ever love is Jimmy.
Davis wakes up. After hearing all that, he stabs Jimmy out of anger. He can't believe that the woman she was obsessed with, the woman whom he thought truly loves him. He confronts Chloe. She has no way of escaping. He corners her, on the verge of killing her as well. Jimmy comes to her rescue and pushes Davis against a sharp object. Davis dies. Jimmy says his last words to Chloe. And then he dies.
Nooooooo...
During the funeral, Clark is nowhere to be seen. Then, he appears at Chloe's watch tower, all filled with guilt. Chloe tells him that Lois is still missing. She was supposed to meet Clark at the phone booth on the day he defeats Doomsday. He obviously could not show up. And the phone booth was near the plant that exploded. Chloe is worried she is dead.
Clark thinks that none of this would have happened if it wasn't for him. He shouldn't have trusted that Davis would be any better as a human. He says his goodbye to Chloe. He plans to leave Metropolis once and for all to be himself. He thinks that he can never be the human he has always wanted to be. He has to fulfill his destiny without any human emotions holding him back. Chloe couldn't make him stay no matter what he said. He finally leaves.
On the other hand, Zod resurrects.
*cue dramatic music*
This is when the REAL battle begins!
End of season.
Okay. I finally got all that out of my system. Now, I need to find something else to do!
